On fields across the world, phones, tablets, drones, and other technologies are changing how food is grown. Through these devices, artificial intelligence (AI)—technology able to perform tasks that require human intelligence—may help farmers use the techniques they already know and trust on a bigger scale.
The Food and Agriculture Microdata (FAM) Catalogue provides an inventory of datasets collected through farm and household surveys which contain information related to agriculture, food security, and nutrition. The FAM catalogue is populated by datasets which are collected directly by FAO and datasets whose collection are supported in some way by FAO.
FONTAGRO supports this platform executed by the International Center for Tropical Agriculture CIAT, which aims to strengthen local networks to promote the adoption of Sustainable and Climate Adapted Agriculture (ASAC, translation of the concept of “climate-smart agriculture” proposed by FAO). The initiative improves the adaptation to climate change and food security of the family producer.
