Developed software that anticipates the stages of soybean growth
With a simple and dynamic model, researchers from INTA, UBA and Conicet developed CRONOSOJA. This software anticipates the stages of growth allowing to identify critical moments.
This tool allows to anticipate occurrences of the different stages of growth that can affect the yield of soybeans. In addition, it provides information to the producer to define the best planting date and combination of variety for a locality.
The specialist in crop ecophysiology of the INTA Parchment, Alan Severini commented: "For farmers it is important to anticipate the occurrence of critical periods, because they determine the crop yield."
The researchers detailed that this tool is a simple and dynamic model that works with information about the photoperiod and the temperature of 34 soybean varieties to predict flowering (R1), the beginning of grain filling (R5) and physiological maturity (R7 ). "We focus on the most representative cultivars of the soybean market in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay," Severini said.
In this sense, Daniel Miralles, specialist in grain crops of FAUBA, said: "This information aims to achieve the highest productivity in each environment." In addition, he stressed that the CRONOSOJA model is available on a website and is free to access.
To access the tool, the user must register and receive an activation email. Then you can start using it to predict critical moments.
For their part, the researchers explained that the software contemplates the probability of frost risk and the availability of useful water in each of the stadiums. "This is fundamental information when making decisions about the progress of the crop," said Severini.
"This version of the CRONOS models applied to soybeans is an evolution with respect to the diagrammed models for wheat and barley, since it substantially expands localities," said the FAUBA specialist. In addition, it should be noted that this tool stores information on 300 matches in the Argentine provinces.
